A sun - dependent mood

Hello sweeties!
It seems to me that this year's winter has taken too long! It has been hard on us and it seems to be never-ending...Here in Greece our mood is totally sun - dependent! When the sun is gone the mood is down...But when the sun is in our company, anything is possible!!!

Last Saturday was a magnificent day! Sunny and warm after a long long time of rain and cold. My love took me to a place I use to go as a little girl with my family on the summer time. I learned how to swim in this sea.

It was a nice break! Now, it is raining (again!!!)...Well, April is not so far away!!!

Monday Moodboard - Knitting mood

Hello sweeties! Last week was really cold and my crafting mood was screaming "knit....crochet...knit...crochet". Since I've learnt to love my crafting mood over the years, I could not let it down, so I went to my mother's house, digged up all of her knitting and crochet needles, bought some yarn and was ready. Almost! I couldn't remember how to knit (or crochet!). I haven't done that for nearly (hold your breath!) 20 years! Yeap! Since I was a kid! Thankfully it took only a couple of hours on YouTube and some translating (I knew all the stitches names in Greek) and I was able to remember everything. After all it is kinda like a bicycle!

Hopefully I will be posting some of my knitting work in the near future here and maybe in my etsy shop as well. Until then treat yourselves with these beauties!!!Aren't these great?

My creative space - Rice and flower brooches

Hey there!
I am down with a cold for the past days but even that didn't stop me from spending too many hours in front of my laptop's display. Fortunately, being home left me time for some cooking. During the last days I've managed to make sardines, meatball soup (a great success) and a very nice rice with sweet corn, zucchinies and sweet red peppers.

I was quite busy with other stuff too (still haven't finished all my orders and their number is not that big) but my mind was still on my best friends wedding last Sunday. In Greek weddings there is a custom to give a small purse with dragées at the end of the ceremony. My friends was a very nice simple one with a sweet yellow to light beige ribbon on it! It contained my favorite kind of dragées and I ate them all!!!

I really wanted to keep the purse as a reminder of the wedding so I came up with an idea. Turn the purse into something I could not through away. And so I did. I made this brooch from the ribbons and the fabrics and tulle of the purse!

I don't know if the technique is correct; I just made the leaves by cutting them and burning them in order not to ravel and then I saw it all together, embelished it with some of my favorite seed beads and sawed the pin on the back.
It was so much fun that I used the same method to make two more brooches...a beige with some sweet water pearls

and a blue one with a tiny bit of lace on it

I think I did ok considering... At least now I have a unique reminder of the wedding and I am going to make some more like the first one to give to my friend!!!

Creative space - Getting ready for the exhibition!!!

Hello sweeties!!!

I am very exhited because in a few days Akamatra together with Hirotechnion will participate in an exhibition here in Athens. The exhibition is called Greek Tradition and it will take place from the 6th untill the 9th of October.

I am thrilled but also nervous about that. I have millions things to do!!! Jewelry, cards, arrangments, you know the drill! Well I had a small problem with how to showcase my jewelry, especially my earrings. I was thinking about it and yesterday I got down to making a showcase. I used a big frame (you know from that big store from Sweden with a four letter name) and some mesh fabric I had saved the last time my boyfriend brought me flowers (he waited for me at the airport with some wonderful roses).

So the final result looks something like this

I still have a lot to do before the exhibition but I am happy (for now at least) with this result!

Sometimes taking a detour makes a difference...

I was born in the late '70s. I grew up in a somewhat poor but nice and friendly neibourhood. Our mothers and grandmothers use to clean the street outside their houses with brooms. We kids use to play every single day in the street. We were loud and had tones of fun! Whenever a car passed through our street we use to throw the ball over it and scream and laugh and oh those were the days!!!

Yesterday the route I usually follow to get home from work was closed by a truck and I had to make a small detour. What I saw almost caught my breath! There were almost twenty kids in the street next to mine playing and having the same fun I used to have as a kid. Their mothers were chatting on the balcony and the smell of fresh baked food filled the street. A grandmother was feeding an egg to a small one and there were bikes and balls all over the road. The scenery amazed me. I am sure you think I am exaggerating and that there are a lot of neighbourhoods like that still left in Athens. Of course there are! But I had forgotten about them!

You see, I use to think that kids today are so unlucky! They don't have time to play on the street since they have too many things they have to learn, their parents are afraid of too many cars and too many strangers on the street, not to mention kids willingly staying home with a laptop and facebook (!!!).

Well it took a small detour for me to realise that some things are still the same, some good things have not changed that much, some kids are still lucky enough to experience a friendly neighbourhood!

I 've learned that you have to change your way of doing things in order to see new or remember old forgotten images.

This is for all kids today. Hope we haven't spoiled it too much for you!

My creative space - I love leather! (and a 25% off sale)

I truly love leather! It is a wonderful material; allows your fantasy to run wild!

I have been playing with it for many years. When I was 14 I made a wallet out of a piece of leather I boutht from a vintage shop in Athens. It was stitched in a crooked way because it was very difficult for me to hand stitch it but I use to carry it around everywhere and it was my favourite possesion - even though it was empty most of the time!

I finally got around to listing a hand cut hand emproidered pendant necklace in the shop only recently - I have now special needles for leather stitching but it still is hard work!)

I am currently working on a series of leather cuffs. I have listed three in my shop yesterday and they have become popular in treasuries allready which makes me super happy!!! (Thanks you guys)

Creative spaces - Put the blame on love - cuff.

I have a confession to make... I am ridiculously in love with my boyfriend. No kidding. This has affected my perspective and I do not mean it in a "kinky" way mind you! I mean it in a can-help-but-sigh-each-time-I-see-something-cute way.

Anyhow, we went shopping the other day in search of a nice fabric for a curtain (actually a screen of a new closet I designed and my father put together but will talk about that in another post). ~~We, well ok~~ I got the most colourful, playful cute fabric one could never think to use as a curtain and we also bought a pair of trousers for my boyfriend. Well the curtains are hanging as we speak and my loved one wears his trousers after I took care of their length. As for me, I was left to play with scraps of both fabrics.

And this is the result

I used my favourite glass seed beads, pink and teal yarn and my ridiculous intoxication of love and made this super cute cuff!

I honestly do not know if I am going to wear it, but I know it makes me smile like a child when I look at it.
